Tristram’s reconstruction of an Irish baroque double-harp

Tristram has always regarded making instruments as a very important part of the process of making music. The nature of the instruments has a profound input upon the musical resources available to the performer and so to the music.

To this end he has made many different types of harp including clarsach’s (both wire and gut strung) and medieval. His interest in keyboard instruments had led to his construction of harpsichords and clavichords, an example of which he currently has under construction. A particularly interesting instrument which he has made is a baroque Irish wire strung double-harp which is a reconstruction of fragments of an instrument preserved in Dublin (see image to the right).

Tristram has made harps to order for customers and anyone interested in such a commission should make enquiries through the bookings page.
